Segawa Joko (瀬川如皐)
Joko SEGAWA was the pen name of kabuki writers (that has been passed down).
Joko SEGAWA (the first)
He was the son (1739-1794) of Nasoro ICHIYAMA the first of the Ichiyama school of classical Japanese dance. He was the older brother of actor Kikunojo SEGAWA (the third). He changed his career from an actor to a writer and also wrote the lyrics of nagauta (long epic songs with shamisen accompaniment) and Tokiwazu (a performance of Joruri [the Japanese-type puppet play]).

Joko SEGAWA the third (1806-1881) was a pupil of Nanboku TSURUYA (the fifth). His parents ran a kimono fabric shop.

Joko SEGAWA the fourth (1857-1938) was a relative of Joko SEGAWA the third. At first he was a pupil of Ochi FUKUCHI and then became a staff playwright of Kabuki-za Theater.
Joko SEGAWA (the fifth)
Joko SEGAWA the fifth (1888-1957) was the son of Joko SEGAWA the fourth. He came to the fore mainly in the Kansai region.
